Welcome to Glenesk School

This week, our Little Nursery children have been full of curiosity and excitement as we began our new topic, ‘Look and Learn Through Spring’. They have loved exploring the changing season, making hedgehogs in Forest School, and spotting the first signs of spring during Circle Time. Creativity has been in full flow with colourful spring-themed artwork and messy play, and our new Farm Shop role-play area has been a huge hit! The children have enjoyed shopping, using the tills, and dressing up. Music has also filled the air as they learned ‘The Sun is Shining Bright’ with Makaton actions.
It has been wonderful to see everyone settling back in after the half-term break, and we can’t wait to dive into next week’s theme, ‘In the Garden’.

We had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day at Glenesk today! It was amazing to see everyone—from nursery to teachers—dressed as their favourite book characters.

After a fun-filled assembly, our older students enjoyed reading to the little ones, sharing stories, and spreading the joy of books.

Last week, our Year Two class had a very special visitor - Sophie, a firefighter! She joined us to chat with the children about The Great Fire of London and teach them some valuable fire safety lessons.

The session was filled with exciting role-play activities, where the children practiced making a 999 call and learned the crucial message: if you see a fire, get out and stay out. Sophie was incredibly impressed by their knowledge, enthusiasm, and wonderful behaviour. Mrs. O’Sullivan couldn’t be prouder of the class.

We were thrilled to welcome the Reception grandparents to Glenesk for a special day of storytelling and shared memories. They gave us a fascinating glimpse into their childhoods - so different from today, yet centred around timeless themes of family, teamwork, and joy.

The grandparents brought along their favourite books and toys from their childhood, sparking the children’s curiosity. Together, we explored exciting topics like spaceships, the first moon landing, and even diving in the Red Sea. One grandparent even brought in real shark teeth for everyone to see and touch!

We also had fun playing table football together, creating wonderful new memories. A huge thank you to all the grandparents for visiting and sharing your incredible stories - we had a fantastic time!
